Land O' Lakes offers a wide variety of spring, summer and fall recreational options, including
swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking or biking. Numerous scenic diversions and opportunities to view wildlife are just minutes away from the lodge.
Or, take a day trip to explore the largest collection of waterfalls in the Midwest, trek the vast Ottawa
National Forest, or to experience the solitude of the unspoiled Sylvania Wilderness. At night, travel to view the infamous mystery light, located just north of Gateway.
The majesty and beauty of the Northwoods winter landscape also offers a plethora of recreational
activities, including snowmobiling, cross-county skiing, snowshoeing or ice fishing. Several downhill ski areas are within a one-hour drive.
After a day of great outdoor action, many of our guests prefer to end their day by curling up in front of the warm, crackling fireplace in our lobby.

Sylvania Wilderness Area (http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/ottawa/recreation/wilderness) As a part of the larger Ottawa National Forest, this nearby protected area is a great natural resource for hiking, camping, canoeing and cross-country skiing enthusiasts.
Vilas County Heritage Tour
Take scenic tours of beautiful Vilas County. Points of
interest and history are located throughout various two-hour loops. Ask for a tour map at our front desk.

Located in nearby Sayner, this museum offers an extensive collection of historic exhibits and artifacts dating back to pioneer days, including the world’s first snowmobile, an antique doll collection, wildlife displays, turn-of-the- century logging equipment and thousands of exclusive photos.

The old Gateway Lodge Ski Chalet was moved into town and now houses the local museum. The museum features Northwoods logging history and Land O’ Lakes past.

Usually peaking any time between mid-September and
October, Land O’ Lake’s large assortment of hardwoods provides a spectacular display. Take a leisurely drive along our smooth country roads or request a guided tour.
