Land O' Lakes offers a wide variety of spring, summer and fall recreational options, including swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking or biking. Numerous scenic diversions and opportunities to view wildlife are just minutes away from the lodge.

Waterfalls

Or, take a day trip to explore the largest collection of waterfalls in the Midwest, trek the vast Ottawa National Forest, or to experience the solitude of the unspoiled Sylvania Wilderness.

Bond Falls Scenic Site

Bond Falls Scenic Site is home to one of the most picturesque falls in the Midwest. You’ll be in awe of the area’s astounding natural beauty as you explore the cascading falls along 600 feet of fully accessible boardwalk with six viewing locations and three viewing platforms.

Winter Sports

The majesty and beauty of the Northwoods winter landscape also offers a plethora of recreational activities, including snowmobiling, cross-county skiing, snowshoeing or ice fishing. Several downhill ski areas are within a one-hour drive.

Biking

Enjoy a day of biking through peaceful forests on the Land O' Lakes Pedestrian Trail, an inviting 7.5 mile 10 foot wide paved path leading west from Land O' Lakes along Hwy. B to Forest Lake Road.

Hiking

Hikers and mountain bikers can now enjoy 10.5 miles of the the recently revitalized Agonikak National Recreation Trail. Eventually both of these trails will become part of the Wilderness Lakes Trail System, the premier biking and hiking destination in the Midwest.

Shopping

Within a 30-mile radius of the Gateway are many small towns featuring central shopping districts, including downtown Land O’ Lakes — where you will find everything from antiques and beaded jewelry to fine clothing and Navajo rugs.

Also worth noting is the Town of Boulder Junction. This attractive town is laid out so that you can walk from one end to the other while visiting many specialty shops along the way, including those operated by local woodworkers and artists.

Colorama Weekend

Usually peaking any time between mid-September and October, Land O’ Lake’s large assortment of hardwoods provides a spectacular display. Take a leisurely drive along our smooth country roads or request a guided tour.

The Paulding Lights

The first recorded sighting of the Paulding Light was in 1966 when a group of teenagers reported the light to a local sheriff. Since then, a number of other individuals have reported seeing the mysterious light, which is said to appear nearly every night at the site. The light appears in a valley outside of Paulding, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, near Watersmeet off US 45 on Robbins Pond Road/Old US 45.

Northern Waters Casino

Sylvania Wilderness Area

Vilas County Heritage Tour

Take scenic tours of beautiful Vilas County. Points of interest and history are located throughout various two-hour loops. Ask for a tour map at our front desk.

Vilas County Historical Museum

http://www.northern-wisconsin.com/museum Located in nearby Sayner, this museum offers an extensive collection of historic exhibits and artifacts dating back to pioneer days, including the world’s first snowmobile, an antique doll collection, wildlife displays, turn-of-the- century logging equipment and thousands of exclusive photos.

Land O' Lakes Historical Museum

http://www.landolakeshistory.org The old Gateway Lodge Ski Chalet was moved into town and now houses the local museum. The museum features Northwoods logging history and Land O’ Lakes past.

Gateway Golf Course

Next door to Gateway Lodge is a challenging nine-hole golf course. Having once belonged to the lodge, the course is located in both Wisconsin and Michigan. The course currently features a putting range, a par of 36, a slope of 123 and 3, 178/2871 yardages.
